16 Sharp Modules not only generate 2070 kWh per year but provide shade from the summer sun reducing the need for air conditioning in the summer months
Amersham & Wycombe College decided to install PV onto the roof of a building on their Chesham campus as the college were offering installer training courses which would lead to the City & Guilds certificate 2372 "Installing & Testing Photovoltaic (PV) Systems". Amersham & Wycombe College felt that lecturers and students would find it beneficial having a local system which students could fully relate to. The project was grant funded under Phase 2 of the Low Carbon Building Programme and part funded by Amersham & Wycombe College. Once the funding had been agreed the college identified Photon Energy as the preferred installer to install the system. Due to the campus having a flat roof, a bespoke mounting system was installed, along the centre of the roof running east to west where a channel of A-shaped rooflights allows natural daylight into the corridor below. Historically, the corridor suffered from overheating in the summer, so the shading which was created from the PV modules was welcomed. The installation took 2 days to install and 1 day to commission. To date, the installation has helped to provide students with a greater awareness of the benefits of PV and sound knowledge of the installation process.
