Photovoltaic Power at Sharp

SUKM is working on a new project in conjunction with Llandrillo College in North Wales who are running a City & Guilds course for Solar Installers. Part of SUKM’s contribution to this partnership is the building on the SUKM factory site of the Solar Installers’ Roof, which forms part of the Solar Installers Academy at SUKM. The Solar Installers Academy in its turn is part of the Solar Education Centre currently under construction in SUKM’s Phase 1 Building.

SUKM have installed small Solar arrays at various points around the factory (the Security Gatehouse is run on Solar power) and there is a 50kW installation on the side of the Phase 1 building. This 50kW installation provides enough energy to power the administrative offices located on the 1st floor of the building.

SUKM are currently examining the viability of supplying Solar amenity lighting which can be used in areas where access for normal street lighting may not be practical.

SUKM are also investigating the possibility of installing a 1MW Solar array on the unused land on the factory’s main site, to further reduce its reliance on grid electricity and the resulting carbon emissions.
