R.o.H.S Test Laboratory

The RoHS laboratory was set up in furtherance of the RoHS Compliance Project. The aim of the project was to ensure timely compliance with Directive 2002/95/EC, which restricts the amount of substances in materials that are harmful to health and the environment. The substances subject to the restrictions are Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr 6) and two flame retardants, Polybrominated Biphenyl (PBB) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE).

In addition to compliance, Sharp has established an extensive database that can be referred to by all ‘Sharp’ organisations worldwide. The laboratory provides testing facilities and expertise for all Sharp manufacturing sites and sales subsidiaries in Europe. The RoHS system and test facility have been integrated into existing control systems and management structure covered by the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 since January 2005.

The RoHS Project was awarded a Green Apple Award for environmental best practice and Sharp were entered into the Green Book for their willingness to share best practice with others for which they received a Green Heroes Award.

Sharp's RoHS testing laboratory is also available to companies outside the Sharp Group on an advisory level. Although not accredited Sharp can test products and advise you of the results to enable companies to declare that their own products are compliant with the 2002/95/EC Directive.
